I was eight months pregnant with our miracle baby when my husband brought his 22-year-old mistress to our baby shower. When I demanded they leave, he punched me square in the stomach, sending me crashing into the gift table. “She’s carrying the real heir, you barren trash,” he sneered, as his wealthy parents actually clapped.

The Countdown

I lay on the floor, clutching my belly in agonizing pain, but I managed a bloody smile. They didn’t know I had already poisoned his father’s company from the inside, and the FBI raid I orchestrated was scheduled for exactly 2:00 PM. I checked my shattered watch—it was 1:59.

At 1:59 p.m., I lay amid the ruined remains of my own baby shower. My husband, Julian, stood over me with his twenty-two-year-old mistress on his arm, smiling like a conqueror.

The room had gone dead silent after he violently shoved me aside.

One second, I was standing there in a pale blue dress, eight months pregnant with our miracle baby. The next, I was crashing backward into silver balloons and a tower of cupcakes spelling WELCOME, LITTLE ONE.

My hands flew to protect my belly. “Julian,” I gasped, the wind knocked out of me. “How could you?”

He casually adjusted his expensive cufflinks. “You embarrassed me.”

Beside him, Chloe practically purred, rubbing her flat stomach. “She really shouldn’t have yelled, Jules.”

I had yelled because he paraded her into our home. Because his mother had just tapped her glass and announced to our guests, “At last, a woman who can give this family what it deserves.”

Julian’s father, billionaire Arthur Vance, stepped forward. “Enough drama, Clara. You were always too emotional for this family.”

To my absolute horror, his wife, Beatrice, gave a small, deliberate clap. Then Arthur joined in. Two wealthy monsters applauding while I trembled on the floor.

Julian sneered down at me. “She’s carrying the real heir, you barren trash.”

I should have cried. Begged. Broken into pieces.

Instead, a slow, chilling smile spread across my face.

Julian flinched. For the first time all afternoon, I looked perfectly calm. He didn’t know I had spent fourteen months inside his father’s corrupt empire as the invisible, disrespected wife. He didn’t know I had handed every illegal ledger and shell account to federal investigators.

He certainly didn’t know the massive FBI raid was scheduled for exactly 2:00 p.m.

I glanced at my shattered watch. 1:59.

“Julian,” I whispered, my voice echoing in the quiet room. “You really should have checked who you married…”

PART 2

Julian crouched beside me, smelling of expensive cologne and betrayal.

“What did you say?”

I swallowed the pain until it became fire. “I said you made a mistake.”

His face hardened. “The only mistake I made was marrying a charity case with a damaged womb.”

Chloe giggled.

That laugh did something to me. It peeled away the last soft thing I had saved for Julian.

For six years, I had stood beside him at galas, smiled through insults, and let his parents treat me like furniture. I had ignored Beatrice’s comments about my “bad bloodline.” I had tolerated Arthur calling me “pretty enough, but useless.” I had forgiven Julian for coldness, absence, lies.

But I had never forgiven stupidity.

And Julian was stupid enough to believe silence meant surrender.

A siren wailed faintly outside.

Arthur noticed it first. His head turned toward the windows.

I saw the flicker in his eyes.

Not fear yet.

Recognition.

He had heard that sound before in boardrooms where enemies fell.

Julian was still performing.

I came to visit my daughter, but her stepfather blocked the doorway. “She went traveling with friends,” he said smoothly. Her mother forced a smile. “She’s happy. Stop worrying.” Then I heard a faint cry from the old warehouse behind the house. Inside, I found my daughter b:ruis:ed and trembling on the floor. I turned toward them, locked the door, and whispered, “Now let’s see how happy you are when my people arrive.”
