Tiffany grabbed her handbag. “You’ll regret this!”

Curtis headed for the door.

“Curtis! Say something!”

He glanced back. “You’ve said enough for both of us.”

I thought it was over.

I was wrong.

After the guests left, I found Molly crying beside her desk.

“Dad, I ruined everything.”

“No, sweetheart.”

“I wanted Mom to see what she’d missed. But she acted like everything you gave us was worthless.”

“How long have you known about her account?”

“Three months. She looked so happy traveling everywhere. Why couldn’t she be happy with us?”

I held her. “That was never your job to fix. You shouldn’t have confronted her online, but what she said was her own choice.”

The next morning, Jenna called.

“Dad, have you seen Mom’s new video?”

“No. What happened?”

“She’s telling everyone you manipulated us into hating her and that you staged Sophie’s… I mean Molly’s confrontation. She’s calling Molly a liar!”

For ten years I had kept quiet to protect my children. Now my silence was only protecting Tiffany.

Tyler called a few minutes later. “Are you going to let her say that?”

“No. I’m going to show people the truth.”

“You’re going after Mom?”

“I’m standing up for Molly. There’s a difference.”

“Then count me in.”

That evening, the older kids and I sat around the kitchen table.

“What about Molly?” Jenna asked.

“She stays out of it. She’s been through enough.”

“And if Mom retaliates?”

“Then we’ll deal with it.”

Tyler frowned. “Doesn’t that scare you?”

“Of course. But I’m more afraid of letting Molly down.”

We chose photos of birthdays, school plays, and the furniture I’d built for each child. I also pulled the footage from our home security camera showing Tiffany screaming at Molly during the party.

Then I sat at Molly’s desk and hit record.

Jenna spoke first. “Dad never told us to hate our mother. He just made sure we knew we were loved.”

Tyler followed. “We weren’t always comfortable. But we were never unwanted.”

The other kids shared their memories too.

Finally, I looked into the camera.

“My ex-wife says children steal your best years. Mine gave me a reason to make those years count.”

No insults. No threats. Just ten years of our lives.

I expected a few hundred views.

By breakfast the next morning, my phone wouldn’t stop buzzing.

“Dad!” Jenna shouted. “You’ve passed three hundred thousand!”

Minutes later, Tyler called. “One of Mom’s sponsors just paused her campaign!”

Over the next three days, more brands reviewed their contracts with her.

Then the marketing director of a furniture company I’d once worked with called.

“Gary, we watched your video. We’ve ended our partnership with your ex-wife.”

“Thanks for letting me know.”

“There’s something else. We’re launching a restoration campaign, and we’d like your workshop involved.”

“You’re offering me a contract?”

“Your work speaks for itself. It always has.”

I barely had time to take that in before Tiffany called.

“YOU DESTROYED MY CAREER!”

“Good morning to you too.”

“Do you know how much money I’ve lost? Curtis’s partners saw everything! Now he’s blaming me and threatening to leave!”

“That sounds like something to discuss with Curtis.”

“You planned this! Delete that video!”

“No.”

“I’ll make you!”

“You’re welcome to speak with a lawyer.”

“After everything, you still want revenge.”

I looked out toward the workshop, where Molly was helping Tyler photograph a restored cabinet.

“No, Tiffany. I wanted our children to stop being treated like something shameful.”

She hung up.

I had never asked anyone to turn on her. I had simply shown people the family she had spent ten years pretending didn’t exist.

That night, Molly sat beside me on the porch steps.

“Dad, people are saying nice things about us.”

“Some people are.”

“One lady said our family looks happy.”

“We are happy.”

“Even without Mom?”

I smiled. “Especially when nobody’s making you feel guilty for being here.”

A few days later, Tiffany showed up at my workshop.

“Gary, please. We could record a reconciliation video. It would help both of us.”

“Would you apologize to the kids without cameras?”

She hesitated. “That wouldn’t fix my reputation.”

“Then there’s nothing to discuss.”

She argued for a while, but she finally understood I wasn’t changing my mind, and she left.

Months later, the workshop was thriving, and I finally had more time for my family.

One evening, Molly joined me among the sawdust.

“Dad, do you ever regret having seven kids?”

“Only when someone eats my last slice of pizza.”

She laughed. “Seriously?”

“Never, sweetheart.”

She ran her fingers over the desk I’d restored for her birthday. “Mom said we deserved better.”

“And what do you think?”

Molly smiled. “I think we already had it.”

I’ve spent my whole life repairing broken things. But I finally learned that some things aren’t worth fixing, and that the family we built had never been broken at all.

THE END
