It was Lisa, and a massive storm was about to hit the party.
PART 2
The soft jazz music continued to play, but the air near the grand entrance became perfectly still.
Lisa walked through the lobby with an effortless elegance that made the diamond and emerald necklace around her neck look completely authentic.
Ava stared at her, completely unable to find her voice.
Chloe, Harper, and Savannah approached quickly, holding their breath in shock. The woman they expected to see humiliated was standing there looking like she owned the entire venue.
“Good evening, Mrs. Covington, you have a lovely party,” Lisa said gracefully.
Ava swallowed hard, stuttering, “Lisa, how are you wearing that?”
“You invited me, so I came,” Lisa replied with a gentle smile.
Whispers broke out among the wealthy crowd as a prominent local banking executive asked who the mysterious woman was. Zachary walked over from the bar area and placed his glass down.
Zachary already knew the incredible truth.
Three weeks earlier, he had discovered an archived news article about the legendary corporate dynasty of the Bartlett family based in Montana. The article included an old photograph of Easton Bartlett, his late daughter, and a hazel-eyed young girl named Lisa Bartlett.
She was the sole heiress to one of the biggest ranching and energy fortunes in the country.
Zachary had remained silent because he knew his mother would never understand that Lisa had chosen this humble life herself.
That very morning, Easton Bartlett had called Zachary directly.
“My granddaughter has cleaned your floors for three years,” the old man had stated.
“I am aware of that, Mr. Bartlett,” Zachary had answered respectfully.
“Then tonight, you will choose which side of history you want to stand on,” Easton had warned.
Now, Zachary understood the situation perfectly.
At that moment, the head butler walked up to the grand staircase, waited for the music to stop, and raised his voice.
“Ladies and gentlemen, by the explicit invitation of Mrs. Ava Covington, we have the distinct honor of welcoming Miss Lisa Bartlett,” the butler announced loudly.
The silence that followed was deafening.
Lisa slowly walked down the sixteen marble steps, knowing every single imperfection in the stone because she had cleaned them on her knees.
When she reached the floor, Ava looked pale and completely trapped in her own cruel joke.
Suddenly, the front doors swung open, and Easton Bartlett entered the room with a commanding presence that forced everyone to stand straighter.
“Thank you for inviting my granddaughter, Ava, as it is a gesture my family will never forget,” Easton said coldly.
Ava tried to force a smile, whispering, “Mr. Bartlett, I had no idea.”
“Of course you didn’t, because Lisa is a very discreet young woman,” Easton interrupted.
Zachary walked over to stand next to them, prompting Ava to glare at him.
“Did you know about this all along?” Ava hissed.
“Yes, I did,” Zachary replied openly.
Easton addressed the entire room, saying, “My granddaughter has completed her personal journey, and tonight she officially takes over our family operations.”
The crowd erupted into frantic murmurs.
Ava realized her joke was ruined, but she did not know that Lisa had brought a black folder filled with dangerous evidence.
PART 3
The black folder looked entirely ordinary, but when Zachary placed it on the central table, the guests knew this was now a public trial.
“What do you think you are doing, Zachary?” Ava demanded.
“I am doing what should have been done years ago,” Zachary stated firmly.
Easton handed Lisa a wireless microphone, and the crowd waited in absolute suspense.
“I will not turn this evening into a theater production, but certain truths must be spoken aloud,” Lisa announced clearly.
Ava clenched her fists, saying, “Lisa, if you have a grievance, we can discuss this privately.”
“I spent three years in private, Mrs. Covington, listening to everything you thought a maid could never comprehend,” Lisa countered.
