After her release, Olivia disappeared from Los Angeles for a whole month. She retreated to her family’s sprawling ranch in Napa Valley. There, surrounded by vineyards, peace, and people she trusted, she began to recover. Her father made sure no one could enter the property unannounced. Lawyers, counselors, and security personnel were on standby. Meanwhile, her phone rang almost constantly. Nathan left messages. Evelyn spoke of family and togetherness. Acquaintances asked for explanations. Olivia didn’t answer anyone. Every evening, she sat on the porch with her son and watched the sunset. Often, she ran her fingers over the small, crescent-shaped birthmark on his foot. This tiny mark reminded her that some truths may be hidden, but they never disappear. While Olivia gained perspective, Los Angeles was celebrating a very different story. Magazines featured photos of Nathan and Vanessa. Society pages reported on charity events, family gatherings, and glamorous receptions. The public admired the image of a seemingly perfect family. Finally, the Caldwell family hosted a grand reception in the Hollywood Hills. Businesspeople, politicians, actors, and numerous business associates were invited. Cameras followed their every move. Nathan stood on a stage and thanked the guests.
“Life sometimes presents unexpected opportunities.”
He smiled at the crowd.
“And sometimes you only realize later what’s truly important.”
Applause filled the room. He then announced that he would be setting aside a portion of his fortune for the child’s future. The guests reacted enthusiastically. Evelyn moved proudly around the room, presenting the baby as the center of attention for the evening.
“Our family looks to the future with great confidence,” she repeated.
Many nodded in agreement. No one asked questions. No one doubted the image presented to them. But in the middle of the event, the atmosphere changed. The baby suddenly became restless. Vanessa immediately noticed that something was wrong. The music stopped. Conversations ceased. Guests looked in her direction with concern. Staff rushed to the scene. Medical help arrived shortly after. The celebration ended abruptly. The guests gradually left the property. The cameras disappeared. Uncertainty and many unanswered questions remained. A few hours later, an anxious silence filled the hospital. Nathan waited nervously for news. Vanessa sat exhausted on a chair. Evelyn paced restlessly. Finally, a doctor appeared.
“We need to discuss some important matters.”
Nathan immediately stepped closer.
“How is he?”
The doctor answered calmly.
“The child has required special medical care since birth. Corresponding indications were documented early on.”
Nathan looked up, confused.
“Excuse me?”
“There were recommendations for regular checkups and close monitoring.”
Vanessa went pale.
“That can’t be right.”
The doctor looked back and forth between them.
“The records are clear.”
At that moment, the door at the end of the hall opened. Several people turned around. Olivia entered the building. She seemed calm, self-assured, and completely composed. Her son slept peacefully in her arms under a soft blanket. When Vanessa saw her, her expression changed instantly. Panic was reflected in her eyes. No one understood why. Not yet.
