Ingredients
For the Filling
- 1 lb Ground pork or chicken Substitute with tofu for vegetarian option.
- 2 cups Shredded cabbage
- 1 cup Carrots Thinly sliced; bell peppers can be used.
- 1/2 cup Green onions Scallions can work as a substitute.
- 3 tbsp Soy sauce Tamari is a gluten-free alternative.
- 2 cloves Garlic Fresh minced garlic adds flavor!
- 1 tbsp Ginger Fresh ginger preferred; ground ginger can be used.
For the Wrapping
- 10 pieces Egg roll wrappers Spring roll wrappers can also be used.
- 2 cups Oil Vegetable oil for frying.
For Serving
- 1 cup Sweet and sour sauce For dipping.
- 1/4 cup Soy sauce For dipping; optional rice vinegar.
Method
Cooking Instructions
- In a skillet over medium heat, cook ground pork or chicken until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Add garlic and ginger, stir in cabbage, carrots, and green onions until just tender.
- Pour in soy sauce and stir well to ensure flavor. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes. Let it cool slightly.
- On a flat surface, lay an egg roll wrapper. Spoon about 2 tablespoons of the filling onto the center of the wrapper.
- Fold the bottom corner over filling, fold in the sides, seal tightly, and roll upwards to finish. Wet the top edge to seal.
- In a deep pan, heat oil over medium-high heat to around 350°F (175°C). Test oil by dropping in a small piece of wrapper.
- Carefully place rolled egg rolls in batches into hot oil. Fry for about 3-4 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
- Drain on paper towels and serve with sweet and sour sauce or soy sauce.
