Place the toast slices side by side in the air fryer basket. Make sure they don’t overlap as much as possible so the air can circulate well and everything browns evenly.
Bake: Set the air fryer to about 180–190 °C (350–375 °F) and bake the cheese toasts for 5–7 minutes, until:
the cheese is completely melted,
it’s bubbling gently,
and the top is golden yellow to lightly browned,
while the bottom of the bread is nice and crispy.
Depending on the appliance, the time may vary slightly. It’s best to check briefly after 4–5 minutes.
Let it rest: Carefully remove the cheese toasts and let them rest for 1–2 minutes. This allows the cheese to settle slightly and prevents it from running out completely when you cut the toast.
Alternative: Oven cooking: Preheat the oven to 200 °C (400 °F) using conventional oven settings (top and bottom heat).
Place the topped toasts on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Bake on the middle rack for 8–10 minutes, until the cheese is melted and golden brown and the bread is crispy.
For extra browning, you can briefly turn on the broiler at the end, but be sure to stay close by.
Serving: Serve the cheese toasts hot and fresh. They taste fantastic on their own, but also go well with:
a small green salad
tomato soup
cucumber or coleslaw
or simply as a snack with a glass of tea or coffee
