Perfect to serve with noodles or mashed potatoes for a complete meal. It’s one of those recipes that always turns out well and everyone wants seconds.
Ingredients
500g minced meat
1/2 small onion
2 tablespoons breadcrumbs
1 egg
2 tablespoons milk
Salt and pepper to taste
1 teaspoon mustard (optional)
Oil for browning
For the sauce:
2 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons flour
2 cups broth (beef or chicken)
1/2 cup heavy cream
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce (optional)
Salt and pepper to taste
Preparation
Finely chop the onion and mix it with the ground meat in a bowl.
Add the breadcrumbs, egg, milk, salt, pepper, and mustard.
Mix everything together until well combined, being careful not to overwork the mixture so it remains tender.
Form medium-sized meatballs with your hands.
In a skillet with a little oil, brown them on all sides until well sealed. Remove them and set aside.
In the same pan, add the butter and let it melt.
Add the flour and mix well to form a roux, cooking for a few minutes to remove the raw flour taste.
Gradually add the broth, stirring constantly to prevent lumps.
Cook until the sauce thickens.
Add the cream, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
Return the meatballs to the pan and cook for a few more minutes so they absorb the sauce.
Serve piping hot with your favorite side dish.
Tips:
To make the meatballs more tender, it’s important not to pack the mixture too tightly when forming them.
If you want more flavor, you can brown them well before making the sauce, as this adds a lot of flavor to the final dish.
The sauce should be made over medium heat, stirring constantly, to prevent lumps from forming and ensure a creamy consistency.
If you prefer a thinner sauce, you can add a little more broth until you reach the desired consistency.
Mustard and Worcestershire sauce are optional, but they add a deeper, more balanced flavor.
You can serve it with mashed potatoes, rice, or noodles, as they all pair very well with this sauce.
If you have any leftovers, it keeps well in the refrigerator and is even tastier when reheated.
For a finishing touch, you can sprinkle some chopped fresh parsley on top when serving.
A simple yet very economical recipe, ideal for any day, with that homemade flavor that never fails.
